Rising Sun is in the southeast suburb of Des Moines, Iowa. We were first established in 1854. Through this history, our church has consistently helped our community and culture remember the unchanging nature of Christ.
We are a multi-staff, multi-generational congregation with an average weekly attendance of 325 people. We have been described as “a large country church in the middle of the city”. Our setting of corn fields and skyscrapers is an indication of the type of people that make up our faith community. We are a blend of new families and generational members; white- and blue-collar workers, conservative and semi-conservatively minded families.
Through these paradoxes, we have found common ground by collectively committing that we will be a people who are “Growing in Christ’s Greatest Commands and Commission”. We pursue this growth by “Building Family Legacies Rooted in Christ’s Truth.” We are proud of our past, excited about our present and have an established plan to help us during the next 20 years. We believe this plan will challenge traditional ministry strategies; facility needs and establish new ministry personnel.
While we’re not perfect and don’t pretend to be, we are not ashamed of the high standards that we hold to become more like Christ every single day. If you are up for a challenge and are looking for something a little different in a church, take the next step and investigate who we are. We look forward to meeting you!
The Executive Pastor objective is to lead the Rising Sun Ministerial and Support Staff with administrative oversight in a way that reflects the Image of the Lord.
