The role of the Kids Ministry Director (KMD) is to oversee the vision and strategy of ministry to families with kids, birth through elementary school. Under leadership of the Senior Pastor, the KMD gives oversite to ministry and partners with the Student Ministry Director (SMD) in a collaborative role. This requires a firm grasp of the beliefs, values, and strategy of FCC Napa and the ability to align key leadership teams with its mission, vision, and values. The KMD leads the initiative of partnering with parents to equip them to disciple their kids at home and leads a team of kids’ ministry volunteers as small group leaders to connect with and disciple kids in weekend small groups and other strategic environments.
The Kids Ministry Director will be responsible for the following:
Model Healthy Discipleship
Accountable for maintaining a Biblical and healthy lifestyle through personal discipleship. This is the key priority for all staff leaders and is at the heart of FCC Napa. The KMD will exhibit an emotionally healthy leadership through their personal relationship with Christ and His church. The KMD endeavors to fulfill his or her ministry calling by demonstrating mature relational integrity.
- Prioritizing a healthy devotional life with the Lord by pursuing the way of “Being with God before doing for God.” This is accomplished in times of regular prayer, the rhythm of sabbath, and the practice of silence and solitude.
- Actively participating in FCC Napa discipleship strategy through corporate gatherings, groups, mentoring, serving, and giving on a regular basis.
- Establishing healthy boundaries with one’s schedule, resources, and relationships.
- Protecting one’s personal integrity both in and outside the church.
- Fostering personal relationships as a witness to the saving grace of Jesus (personal evangelism).
Parents: Connect. Equip. Encourage.
- Connect with parents of kids individually and together to build relationships with yourself and Small Group Leaders (SGLs).
- Partner with staff to assess where parents are at in their own discipleship process to encourage them in their own next steps.
- Equip parents to have faith conversations with their kids at home through resources, weekly follow-up emails, updates, etc.
- Provide meet-up opportunities for parents of kids - both casually and topic specific to equip parents based on the phase of their kids and students (such as Faith Milestones).
- Create and lead family events for kids and parents to connect together for fun with other families (seasonally based and pop-up events). These events also provide an opportunity for families to invite unchurched friends.
Volunteers: Discipleship Growth. Trained. Appreciated.
- Recruit, share vision and strategy, train and lead Small Group Leaders (SGL) teams for the Babies/Toddlers, Preschool, Elementary - K-3rd Grades, and Preteen 4th-5th Grades.
- Regularly connect with teams to encourage, inspire, and celebrate them while providing opportunities for them to connect with each other.
- Provide opportunities for ongoing feedback to and from teams.
- Equip and encourage SGLs to form growing relationships with kids/students in their groups and with their parents.
- Equip SGLs in how to maximize conversations for kids’/students’ discipleship.
- Equip SGLs with curriculum. Encourage them to take the lead with teaching, discussions, and other aspects of small group time.
Kids: Discipleship Growth. Known. Valued.
- Create small group environments that provide kids, from birth through 5th grade, with a place to belong and be known, and grow in discipleship relationships between Small Group Leaders and other kids and peer to peer (kids to kids).
- Adapt curriculum as needed to encourage discipleship growth.
- Assess kids individually to determine where they are on in their discipleship journey and encourage them in their unique next step of faith.
- Plan and lead opportunities outside of small groups for kids and their parents to connect, with welcoming and engaging events where they can invite friends.
- Be knowledgeable of special needs for all kids and partner with parents so all are included.
- Ongoing research of opportunities in the community to reach out to kids and their families not yet connected at a church.
- Be engaged with the on-campus school (separate non-profit) for opportunities to collaborate in ministry to kids and families.
Administration Oversight:
- Regular planning: partner with SMD to share wins, review goals, provide and receive feedback, update, give support, etc., to the overall family ministry strategy.
- Staff meetings: weekly all staff, supervisor, and ad hoc meetings (as needed).
- Create spaces on campus for kids and students that are welcoming environments.
- Budget oversight: provide good stewardship for all resources of the church.
- Reporting: provide weekly attendance, new families, family contact info and changes.
- Safety and security: alert to on campus activity; background checks for volunteers.
- Ongoing assessment of small groups and events regarding discipleship objectives.
- Communication with parents and SGLs via emails, mailings, social media, phone calls, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high capacity to communicate across various constituencies. Including the ability to speak effectively in both large and small groups.
- Demonstrate skill to recruit, develop, and lead volunteers in various ministry initiatives.
- Ability to assist others in assessing their gifts, skills, and interests, and use tools to link them to ministry opportunities.
- Highly organized, teachable, and dependable.
- Approachable, friendly, and outgoing; ability to develop relationships with kids, parents, and families.
- Experience working in various Social Media platforms and software tools (MS Suite, Planning Center, X, Facebook, Instagram).
- Four-year degree or equivalent experience.
Work Hours:
- Sunday through Thursday – (as office and campus responsibilities require)
- Must be flexible. This role may include hours outside of regular office hours and weekend service times.
- It is essential for staff to attend all staff meetings. Every effort should be made to schedule vacations and appointments to not interfere with key ministry seasons/meetings (Exceptions must be approved by supervisor).
- All staff members are required to work the week leading up to and including Christmas and Easter services; the schedule for these services can vary according to the campus needs and the ministry calendar.
Work Environment - Physical Requirements & Notations:
- This position requires bending, stooping, stretching and occasional lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds. Work is generally performed indoors but may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
